Traction is key Our studies show that when a worker's feet leave the ground his productivity drops by half. If the platform on which he is standing is not stable or is slippery, productivity drops even more. On wet or lightly iced planking, grip seal with aggregate can make a major difference in the amount of traction workers have and can help to get some of the lost productivity back.

Scaffold planking, truck and trailer beds, tool handles, decking and other wood products are all affected by moisture and chemicals. Often, dry storage and protection of these wood products from the elements is impractical or impossible. Indian Mill Grip Seal is an epoxy-resin based water-soluble product that protects all types of wood from water, weather and chemical damage. The addition of aggregate to Grip Seal provides scaffold plank and other wooden surfaces with a non-slip surface. Grip Seal was developed originally to protect our Pin-Lok scaffold planks from the hazards of the worksite, where weather, water and jobsite chemicals can damage scaffold planking. Shortly after we began to offer it as an option on our Pin-Lok and Pin-Lam planks, we found that it would protect almost any type of wood from outdoor damage. We offer Grip Seal in both a regular translucent coating for normal use and with aggregate for applications where a high-traction surface is required. Grip Seal can be thinned and cleaned with water when wet, yet dries to a translucent water-protective coating. Grip Seal resists cracking and peeling and protects any wood surface from the effects of water, mildew, and ultraviolet ray damage. Application is easy, and Grip Seal can be sprayed, brushed or rolled on as easily as paint. Grip Seal complies with OSHA and ANSI rules about painting a scaffold plank. Grip Seal dries to a transparent finish, allowing all parts of the plank to be visually inspected.

The above photos show planking which is half coated with grip seal and half uncoated. Note how the uncoated side is cracked and greyed from weathering, but the Grip Seal side is much clearer. |
